Ghost Town Kadykchan — an abandoned settlement in the Magadan region of Russia. Founded in 1939 as a workers’ village for coal mining, the town developed quickly during the Soviet era and provided energy for the region. After a mining accident in 1996, operations were shut down, and residents gradually began to leave. By the early 2000s, the town was almost completely deserted. Buildings, apartments, schools, and shops were left empty.

Kadykchan is silent today. Crumbling apartment blocks, abandoned toys, and Soviet posters create the impression of an abruptly interrupted life.

Nayakhan — the first settlement in the modern Magadan region where electricity and radio communication appeared, and the last settlement where Soviet power arrived. It is located at a great distance from the cities. Nayakhan was abandoned due to the danger of flooding.

Ust-Omchug is a settlement and the administrative center of the Tenkinsky district of Magadan Oblast, Russia. About 56 kilometers north of the settlement there are some other abandoned settlements that were once part of the Soviet GULAG system.
